New Emissions Rules Bring Cost Benefits?
11/6/03 from FleetOwner
Found by tschneider
Media/Public Relations Diesel emission standards scheduled to go into effect in 2007 will cost the trucking industry about $4 billion annually but an Environmental Protection Agency official told an industry forum in Tenesse yesterday, that the health benefits will produce a much higher number in terms of dollars. Do you believe the numbers given?
California to Ban Trucks!!!
8/22/03 from FleetOwner
Found by tschneider
Policy/Labor/Legal Well maybe that's a stretch - but is it? With a trpling of the VLF and a 42% increase in weight fees that's what they're doing now for some owner/operators. Why not go all the way and require goods be carried on horseback? It would be more enviromentally friendly, wouldn't it? Can anyone justify this state's assault on the trucking industry?
Ooops: Give that Tax Break Back! - Another Reason to Recall Gray Davis?
6/17/03 from The Sacramento Bee
Found by tschneider
Trucking in the News State officials say an error made three years ago gave the trucking industry a tax break. Is this another reason to call Ah-nold to terminate the gov? Or do you say 'what the hell, the state needs it more than us'?
The New Hours of Service Rule
4/25/03 from FleetOwner
Found by tschneider

The Truck Parking Issue
7/10/02 from Modern Bulk Transporter
Found by tschneider
Trucking in the News The FHWA issues a report that says parking areas adequate for trucks, although it suggests in some areas there may be shortages. The ATA cites the shortages and overbearing federal hours-of-service regulations and calls for federal funding of truck parking facilities. The report also states that 90% of all parking is provided by commercial truck stops and travel plazas. Do we really want the feds more involved? There's a lot of twists and turns to this story and the issue - what's your take on it all? ATA's comments can be seen at: http://bulktransporter.com/ar/transportation_ata_calls_federal/index.htm, and the full FHWA report at: http://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/repctoc.htm
The Wheel Tax: Rolling into Your Town Soon?
6/5/02 from Journal and Courier
Found by tschneider
Compliance "The Tippecanoe County Council is considering the Local Option Highway User Tax, commonly called a wheel tax, as a source of funds for road improvements that would be distributed among the county, cities and towns." Does anyone out there have this tax in your locale? How would you respond if you did? If it works in Tippecanoe, how long before communities across the country jump on the gravy train?
Bill Calls For Biometric ID On Licenses
5/7/02 from TruckingInfo.com
Found by tschneider
Policy/Labor/Legal "A bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives last week calls for “smart” driver’s licenses, ones that include a computer chip and biometric identifiers such as thumbprints and digital photographs" - Is this just being prudent? Or does it create a national ID card that is un American? Will it increase safety or just government power? Will it help protect freedom or only limit it?
