Truckers safer than you might think...do you agree?

Safety/Risk Management BIG MEDIA rarely pass up a chance to criticize trucks and trucking, constantly indulging in fear-mongering about dangers to others on the road. The New York Times did it again in a recent article about the most dangerous things American workers do while on the job. The most dangerous thing, as it turns out, is driving.

Safety/Risk Management Customs agents want earlier notification on what is bound for U.S. - Under the proposed rules, trucking companies will have to transmit cargo data to customs 30 minutes to an hour before reaching the border. At present, a large percentage of trucking companies lack the ability to transmit such data electronically, a problem that customs officials say will diminish over time. Are these new rules a reasonable precaution to prevent terrorism or an unneccessarily large burden on the industry?
