BIG MEDIA rarely pass up a chance to criticize trucks and trucking, constantly indulging in fear-mongering about dangers to others on the road. The New York Times did it again in a recent article about the most dangerous things American workers do while on the job. The most dangerous thing, as it turns out, is driving.

Customs agents want earlier notification on what is bound for U.S. - Under the proposed rules, trucking companies will have to transmit cargo data to customs 30 minutes to an hour before reaching the border. At present, a large percentage of trucking companies lack the ability to transmit such data electronically, a problem that customs officials say will diminish over time. Are these new rules a reasonable precaution to prevent terrorism or an unneccessarily large burden on the industry?
